Magneto-optical Sandwiches for Surface Plasmon Resonance Systems

چکیده
The Au/Fe grating/Au sandwiches located on BK-7 substrate have been applied in Otto configuration for magneto-optical (MO) surface plasmon resonance sensor units. We analyzed the reflectance and Kerr magneto-optical parameters of used structure for different periodicity Λ and thickness of golden films. The height of Fe dots placed in Au matrix has been fixed at 20 nm, the laser incidence beam was ppolarized at the wavelength of 632.8 nm. The results show the sharp reflectance extreme (up to Rp = 0.85) as the function of incidence angle. This dependence is importantly modified by Au film thickness. The influence of magneto-optical activity of Fe grating has been studied by Kerr effect in longitudinal configuration. The maximum of rotation achieves is 4 mdeg, the extreme ellip-ticity value is about 3 mdeg. The influence of Au film thickness on Kerr parameters is observed too. The achieved results offer new approaches for MO surface plasmon resonance sensing elements. Index Terms magneto-optics, sensors, surface plasmon resonance.

Surface Plasmon Resonance Sensor with Magneto-optical Thin Film
Thanks to resonant excitation of surface plasmons, SPR sensors including ferromagnetic thin films allow the enhancement of the magneto-optical response. MO-SPR structures with Au/Co/Au sandwiches are theoretically analyzed in transverse configuration. The influence of sandwich film thicknesses and layer order is discussed. The optimized geometry and corresponding feedback are specified.
متن کاملFabrication and Characterization of the Fiber Optical Taper for a Surface Plasmon Resonance Sensor
For a fiber optical surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor a short part of its cladding should be removed to coat a thin layer of a metal. Usually this is problematic when an optical fiber with small core diameter is used. In this paper, a new method using µliter droplet of the HF acid for short fiber optical taper fabrication is reported. Using this method in a multi-mode optical fiber w...
متن کاملLocalized surface plasmon resonance effects on the magneto-optical activity of continuous Au/Co/Au trilayers.
We study how the magneto-optical activity in polar configuration of continuous Au/Co/Au trilayers is affected by the excitation of localized plasmon resonances of an array of Au nanodiscs fabricated on top of them over a dielectric SiO(2) spacer. We show that the effect of the nanodiscs array is twofold. First, it optimizes the absorption of light at specific photon energies corresponding to th...
متن کاملPlasmon-induced magneto-optical activity in nanosized gold disks.
In this Letter we show that nanostructures made out of pure noble metals can exhibit measurable magneto-optic activity at low magnetic fields. This phenomenon occurs when the localized surface plasmon resonance of the nanostructure is excited in the presence of a static magnetic field parallel to the propagation of incident light. The large magneto-optical response observed comes from an increa...
متن کاملDevelopment of Novel Magneto-plasmonic Sensors of Interest in Space Applications
Technological advances in sensor designs (e.g. increased sensitivity) may be achieved by combining plasmonic and magneto-optical materials, thus leading to magneto-plasmonic systems. Noble metal-ferromagnetic systems, such as Au/Co/Au trilayers and Au/FePd bilayers, are candidates for magneto-plasmonic systems, where surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) may be modulated by externally applied magne...
